Website of the Week #11

Spineless Books

spineless.bmp

Founded 20-02-2002, Spineless Books is an independent publishing house dedicated to the production and distribution of printed and electronic literature, with a strong emphasis on collaborative writing and formal experimentation. The site povides a range of short texts, poetry and essays. But the most interesting aspect of this site is the rejuvination of OuLiPolian methods for writing poetry and prose that is free from the constraints that can hinder imaginative writing. Check out Deep Speed- a combined palindrome search and verification program - for an easier way to write that embedded last line...

SHORTFUSE - Thursday 18th March

For this week's fusion of performance comedy, stand up poetry and music we bring you support and a feature length set from:

JULIAN FOX

– master of the absurdly normal intricacies of the everyday: a unique blend of cabaret, comedy, music and poetry. ‘genius’ – Evening Standard, ‘a cult attraction’ Guardian. (click here for a review of Julian's previous show)

PAUL KENNEDY – sophisticated satirical silliness, think King Lear meets Edward Lear and you are only half way there.

AMIE HANSEN – physical performance poetry that pushes the limits of the imagination.

GUEST DJ: TIM WELLS spinning some old skool soul.

SHORTFUSE - Thursday 25th March

For this week's fusion of performance comedy, stand up poetry and music we bring you support and a feature length set from:

JOE CAIRO – the one and only original hard man of poetry performs a feature length
set of poetry that gives a good kicking to the myths of poets writing about flowers
and clouds, sharp writing with an even sharper sense of humor.

TIM WELLS – a top class reading with all the usual sentimentality, smut and social
history you’d expect from the editor of the ‘Rising’ ‘zine.

TOM BARNES – sharply constructed observations coupled with a witty and warm
performance.

SHORTFUSE - Thursday 1st April

What?

Here @ SHORTFUSE we aim to present the best established performers as well as giving opportunities to fresh new talent.
Since wining the previous POETRY IDOL CONTESTS; Liz Bently, Rhian Edwards, Sarah Kobrinsky and Project Adorno, have had full length sets in various spokenword venues including
Express Excessand Apples & Snakes.

How does it work?

Six performers new to SHORTFUSE will perform for 10 minutes each, and the the audience will vote for their favourite. The winning two acts will both be given a full length paid set later in the year.
We had an overwhelming response to our call for submissions for the 3RD SHORTFUSE POETRY IDOL contest. And finally after listening to hours of tapes we have made the shortlist of finalists who will appear on the 1st April.

SP HOWARTH
GARETH JONES
GEMMA CAMMIDGE
NAINA CHAVDA
ERNESTO SAREZALE

They will all perform for 10 minutes each, and YOU the audience will vote for which 2 acts will be crowned the newest SHORTFUSE POETRY IDOL’s and given full length paid sets later in the year.
