Thursday 7th October NATIONAL POETRY DAY - HARD EDGE CLUB SPECIAL Founded in the Autumn of 1989, and running for 10 years, The Hard Edge Club was responsible for kick-starting the stand-up poetry scene in London, giving many poets and performers now currently at the top of their game that all important first gig. So, on the National Poetry Day organised by the Poetry Society, we reunite three of The Hard Edge Club's organisers who put together some of the most vibrant poetry nights out of little more than passion for the spokenword and being heard: SPIDER EVANS - co-founder of The Hard Edge Club and co-author of Still Searching For The Big City Beats, the ONLY novel that has performance poetry as its focus, performers his own brand of urban verbal graffitti. TIM WELLS - a top class reading with all the usual sentimentality, smut and social history you’d expect from the editor of the Rising series of zines. JOE CAIRO - the one and only original hard man of poetry performing poetry that gives a good kicking to the myths of poets writing about flowers and clouds, sharp writing with an even sharper sense of humor. PLUS SPECIAL GUEST: PETER STEAD - a new generation of stand-up and spoken observation from this rising star of the comedy circuit. HOSTED BY:
+ discs of darkness spun by DJ DAVID BUSH Doors: 8.30pm. Admission: £5 waged / £3 concessions.
