Thursday 6th October

As a mark of respect for the once a year National Poetry Day, here at SHORTFUSE - London's ONLY weekly fusion of stand-up poetry, performance comedy and spokenword - we bring you, erm, less poetry than usual from three three fantastic acts:

Fortnight and Unit - bring you sketches and shenanigans. Positive press for past shows: 'Bold, original and fresh…deliciously funny too' - The Scotsman, 'May well produce big things' - Sunday Times, 'Infects the audience with so much laughter someone should call a paramedic' - The Guardian

Brains and Virgin present The Bare Leg Club: avant-popstars combine beats and off all walls comedy into something very very funny and unique.

Rhian Edwards: winner of the 1st SHORTFUSE POETRY IDOL contest, an extremely talented writer and performer who combines word play and characterisation into tightly observed poetry and song.

With Special Guest Host:

Ritchie Scurvey

55-year-old alcoholic anarchist Punk Poet Ritchie Scurvey, ex-bassist with earthmoving 70s punk band ‘Dick Scurvey and the Cocksmiths’, lives on a floor in Hackney. Ritchie spits lines like ‘Maggie Thatcher, Maggie Thatcher, from what reptilian egg did they hatch her?’ and alerts kids to the evils of heroin with ‘Socky the Drugs Puppet’ outside schools throughout London.

Eschewing sell-out ‘paid’ gigs (entirely through choice), he makes regular appearances at revolutionary open mic night ‘WORDSSOANGRY’ at the Hammersmith Soyuz, and since winning Poetry Idol has also appeared at Express Excess, ‘Utter’ and the Clerkenwell Literary Festival.
